Is SEO being used to scam website owners?

Let’s look at first things first. In my opinion and the opinion of many knowledgeable people in this business, the five things that are probably of little value are as follows: 1. Cheap back links or any back links that you buy from someone probably have little value. If you want back links that have some value then write articles and submit to E-zines (there are 100s) or produce videos and submit to video sites (there are hundreds). 2. Get a guaranteed google page rank. Anyone can get you a page rank with some obscure keyword. But that won’t bring traffic looking to buy what you are selling and probably won’t bring traffic of any kind. 3. Submit your URL to 100 search engines. This is totally worthless because just 3 search engines control 98% of all searches made and a URL can be submitted to all three in an hour probably. 4. Get a first page ranking in one week. Google’s staff of engineers could optimize your site and not realistically guarantee that. 5. Beware of SEO companies telling you that their SEO methods are a secret. Their secret may be the method they use to induce people to pay for their services. Good SEO requires time, knowledge, and work and even then there are no guarantees but there is a good chance of obtaining positive results.

Since almost the beginning of the SEO industrialization there have been skeptics to the business practices of SEO companies.  The main reason or alarm for concern is usually stemmed from the fact that SEO companies have such a huge gap in service fees which range anywhere from under one hundred dollars to millions per year for some large corporations.  You can literally search Google for an SEO company and find at least 5 people services with the same offers or very similar, and they are all priced extremely different from one another.  So the big question that is left for the consumer is, "Should I pay more for an SEO company or less?", and it’s a great question to have! Being informed is the best way to make a safe decision when choosing an SEO company to invest your time and money.

There are many reasons why SEO companies or SEO freelancers charge such different rates for almost the same exact services, and the main reason is usually overhead.  Overhead is the term used by business owners for the amount of money it actually costs each month in order to just sustain their business without any profits or losses, basically just breaking even.  When a business is new, or not properly structured, they may try to recoup their losses by charging drastically higher prices than their competitors or offering a less superior service due to lack of effort or needed labor. The case is not always the same for every high priced or low priced SEO company, there are some who charge less in order to serve a larger audience.  For a business to reach more people and have less profits they must be priced lower than their competitors, but this is not a deterrent to success, it only helps them become more recognized than their adversaries. The best way to find these companies is by a direct referral of somebody who has had success using their service.  You can bet if the SEO company is focusing on providing good service that you will hear about it sooner than later from another business owner in your area or industry.

The bottom line for consumers is they should keep an open eye for unusual conduct by an SEO practice, however no more than any other transaction they perform within their business community.  Just be sure to perform proper background research on the SEO company to make sure they don't already have an existing bad rap with the public. You can search google and instantly find tons of reviews and ratings on almost any business.
